Surdyk’s Featured Beer Specials

Surdyk’s Web site is featuring their robust selection of Belgian beers this month. Best yet, you can order the beer online and pick it up at the store or have it delivered to your house.

Here are a couple of highlights:

Indian-Brewed Bud

In an effort to get a stake in India’s booming economy, Anheuser-Busch has announced plans
to brew Budweiser in that country.

So, what’s the local angle on this story?  One of Anheuser-Bush’s primary competitors in India is SABMiller, the owners of local favorite, Leinenkugel’s.   Both companies are experiencing a flat US beer market, so they are looking internationally for growth.

This story makes me appreciate Summit and Schells more and more.

Only In Wisconsin: Beer Keg Thefts May Drive Up Beer Prices

We’ve been hearing for weeks about the impact ethanol is having the increasing beer costs.  Now, a report out of Wisconsin points to the high demand for scrap metal as one more reason to expect to pay more for your beer.  At least in western Wisconsin, anyway.

Brauhaus Brew Hall - Lucan

Brauhaus Brew HallThe Brauhaus Brew Hall in Lucan is featured in the July issue of Minnesota Monthly as one of southwestern Minnesota’s road trip destinations. I grew up only a few miles from this fairly new brewery, so I take particular interest in any information about it.

From the article:

A tiny brew hall in the minuscule town of Lucan, the Brauhaus offers an astonishingly big selection, including the local brew, beers crafted by the Brau brothers, one of whom once co-owned the ’haus before the siblings decided to get into the brewing business.

I’ve enjoyed their Pale Ale and Cream Stout in the past couple of months, and both are solid tasting beers. They recently started distributing their beers (they currently have 5 varieties), but I’ve yet to find it in the Twin Cities area. If you’ve come across it on a beer run, please let me know where you found.

Richfield Liquor Beer Of The Month

Grain BeltRichfield Liquor is featuring Grain Belt Premium as their beer of the month in July.  If you find a store, you’ll pay $7.99 for a twelve pack of this locally brewed beer.

NPR: Agriculture Shift Causes Beer Prices To Rise

It seems that you can’t swing a dead cat without hitting a “beer prices are on the rise” story these days.   NPR got in the mix this week with an audio report on the average 3% increase in beer prices across the country.

Let us know where you’re finding the best prices in our Beer Price Forum.
