Mantorville Brewing Company’s Stagecoach Ale Hits Stores
A nice story in the Rochester Post-Bulletin reports the struggles of little Mantorville Brewing to get off the ground. According to the article, six packs of their Stagecoach Ale should be in coolers at your favorite local liquor store. Let us know if you’re able to find a bottle.
He [Tod Fyten, a St. Paul brewer who bought the Mantorville Brewing Company in 2002] has big plans to get the beer distributed through the region and the Twin Cities before moving ahead with more beers from Mantorville. A golden ale and a smoked porter are both in the works. The golden is a lighter beer that will use honey malts from Canada, Fyten said.
Leinenkugel’s Northwoods Lager Is Back
From Leine’s:
If you’re thirsty for an update on the limited run Northwoods Lager, you’re in luck. Over the past several weeks, Master Brewer John Buhrow has been carefully watching over every step of the brewing process for the Northwoods limited release. The first batches are tucked away in our Chippewa Falls aging cellars, developing the smooth, roasted maltiness and perfect hop bite and aroma that Northwoods is famous for. In his expert opinion, John believes the brew will be ready for packaging on January 25. Which means you could expect to see Northwoods back on the shelf as soon as February 4. You’ll only find Northwoods in Wisconsin, Minnesota and the Dakotas, and only for a limited time. If any new information pours in, we’ll be sure to pass it along. So stay tuned.

Here Comes Rolling Rock Red
According to Miller’s Brew Blog, it appears that Anheuser-Busch is getting ready to release Rolling Rock Red, a red version of their recently acquired Rolling Rock lager.
Copy on the back of the bottle reads (according to federal filings): “From the good name of Rolling Rock along with the untraditionally painted green bottle, we created this finely crafted red lager beer. Our toasted caramel malt introduces a rich, robust taste to a remarkably smooth finish. We tender this finely crafted red lager for your continued enjoyment, as a tribute to your good taste.”

#2 – January 23rd @ Acadia Café – debut of two, our 2nd anniversary ale. Remember Acadia Café has moved to Riverside and Cedar in Minneapolis
#3 – January 30th @ Common Roots Café – coffee bender
#4 – We have a photo competition running; winner receives a Surly Prize Pack that includes a bottle of Darkness and a Surly Jacket! Send us your Surly pictures. We will announce the winner at the debut of Surly Mild.
#5 – We donated 6 bottles of Darkness to EnergyCents, a local charity that helps keep the power on; over $1400 was raised by auctioning off the bottles on Ebay!
#6 – No tours until Spring. We are cutting out 3000 square feet of the brewery so we can add more tanks.
#7 – Beer prices are going up. Sorry everybody, but barley and hops have both increased over 50% since we started 2 years ago.
#8 – The Surly Second Anniversary dinner is approaching soon, check the web-site for details because it will sell out fast. The date is February 11th, I’m not saying where, tickets are not yet for sale.
#9 – Rumors are floating around about a new canned seasonal… more on that soon. (No, it is not Darkness)
#10 – We will have some two bottled up in 750s for sale at the brewery. No date on that yet.See you drinking,
