Miller Lite Crafts Coming To The Twin Cities
As you’ve likely heard already, Miller Lite is looking to tap into the growing craft beer industry by releasing three craft versions of their flagship brand, Miller Lite. The crafts - a blond ale, an amber beer, and a wheat beer - will be test marketed in the Twin Cities and 3 other markets starting in February. Rather than trying to take on the whole craft industry, Miller’s focus will be to create light beer options for consumers who are interested in drinking beers that have more flavor than a typical light beer.
From Miller’s Brew Blog:
“With Miller Lite Brewers Collection, we’re seeking to establish a whole new category for the industry — craft-style light,” says Miller Chief Marketing Officer Randy Ransom. “Miller Lite is the perfect beer to introduce this innovative product because only Miller Lite provides the ideal balance of real beer taste and refreshment. And so it makes sense that we use our expertise to brew a brand with great craft-style taste and the refreshment and drinkability American beer drinkers prefer.”

Give us your take: Is this an aggressive move by a big brewer to stomp out small craft brewers, or is this just another case of the big guys not getting it?

Bud To Cost More
The big guys are feeling the hops crunch just like the small guys. To offset the rising cost of ingredients, Anheuser-Busch announced plans to increase the price of its beer. The nation’s biggest brewer also announced plans to increase advertising spending to promote its flagship brands, Budweiser, Bud Light, and Michelob.

Anheuser-Busch To Up TV Ad Spending By $100 Million
Can’t get enough of those hilarious Budweiser frogs? Well, you’re in for more of them. Maybe a lot more of them.
From The Milwaukee Business Journal:
Anheuser-Busch Cos. Inc. plans to increase spending by at least $100 million on television advertisements next year for its four core brands while reducing its spending on its small brands, the Wall Street Journal reported Monday.
St. Louis-based Anheuser-Busch (NYSE: BUD), the top rival to Miller Brewing Co. of Milwaukee, will spend about $70 million more than it has this year on advertisements for its top-selling beers, Bud Light and Budweiser, according to the Journal’s online story. Its other two core brands, Michelob and Michelob Ultra, will receive about $30 million in ads focusing on the traditional way Busch brews the beer.
Miller To Buy Grolsch
The big continue to only get bigger:
SABMiller plans to buy Royal Grolsch for $1.2 billion, with plans to expand sales of the 392-year-old Dutch beer brand in Latin America and South Africa.
Grolsch accepted a bid - subject to shareholder approval in January - of 48.25 euros a share in cash, London-based SABMiller said. That’s a premium of 79% over its previous closing price.
