Texas Brewery Releases Oklahoma Suks Beer

Oklahoma Suks Beer Just in time for the Longhorns v. Sooners game, Austin-based Independence Brewing Co. has released this year’s version of their popular Oklahoma Suks brew.

From the story on Businesswire.com:

Inspired by the tradition of the Hex Rally for the A&M game, Independence Brewing Co. created Oklahoma Suks Beer for Longhorn fans to collectively will OU into sucking on October 6th. Released once a year, Oklahoma Suks Beer is only available the week before the TX-OU game, in Austin-area grocery stores.

When we first released Oklahoma Suks Beer in 2006, we thought it would be an inside joke for local Longhorn fans. But word of the beer spread quickly on the Web, and we were contacted by Longhorn fans from all over the country, explained Amy Cartwright, president of Independence Brewing Co.

Anyone have a batch of Wisconsin Blows fermenting in their basement?

Surdyk’s (Minneapolis) Weekly (8/23-29) Beer Specials

I’m a couple of days late on the new Surdyk’s specials.  Still, you have time to stock up before Labor Day:

Anheuser-Busch Releases Pumpkin Beer

Anheuser-Busch this week announced the return of Jack’s Pumpkin Spice Ale, first released in 2005.

“For adults who’ve never tried a pumpkin beer before, we’d encourage them to experiment with Jack’s,” said Florian Kuplent, brewmaster, Anheuser-Busch, Inc. “Because the pumpkin and spice flavors are so well-balanced and subtle, Jack’s doesn’t overpower foods and makes for an ideal culinary experience. Year after year this is one of our favorite beers to brew and we hope beer drinkers who enjoy trying new flavors will sample this seasonal ale.”

City Pages: Surly Nation

Be sure to check out the great profile of Surly Brewing in the current issue of the City Pages.

“A lot of people told me, when I was looking to start the brewery, that I should do it in Wisconsin,” Ansari said, citing Wisconsin’s well-known microbrewery friendliness. “But I told them: I’m not from Wisconsin. I don’t cheer for the Packers, so why would I brew beer in Wisconsin?”

Surdyk’s Featured Beer Specials

Surdyk’s Web site is featuring their robust selection of Belgian beers this month. Best yet, you can order the beer online and pick it up at the store or have it delivered to your house.

Here are a couple of highlights:

Brauhaus Brew Hall - Lucan

Brauhaus Brew HallThe Brauhaus Brew Hall in Lucan is featured in the July issue of Minnesota Monthly as one of southwestern Minnesota’s road trip destinations. I grew up only a few miles from this fairly new brewery, so I take particular interest in any information about it.

From the article:

A tiny brew hall in the minuscule town of Lucan, the Brauhaus offers an astonishingly big selection, including the local brew, beers crafted by the Brau brothers, one of whom once co-owned the ’haus before the siblings decided to get into the brewing business.

I’ve enjoyed their Pale Ale and Cream Stout in the past couple of months, and both are solid tasting beers. They recently started distributing their beers (they currently have 5 varieties), but I’ve yet to find it in the Twin Cities area. If you’ve come across it on a beer run, please let me know where you found.
